Compraverde Forum at COP30 with the University of Genoa and Tetis Institute: sport and sustainability at the heart of the global debate

12 November 2025

An Italian contribution to the global dialogue on sport, youth and sustainability, made possible through the collaboration of the University of Genoa, Tetis Institute and Fondazione Ecosistemi.

The Compraverde Buygreen Forum took part in the COP30 in Belém (Brazil), within the Italian event “Sport, Youth and Sustainability: Drivers of Social Development and Climate Engagement”, promoted by the University of Genoa and the Tetis Institute, an academic spin-off dedicated to research and innovation for sustainability.

During the presentation by Adriana Del Borghi, Vice-Rector for Sustainability at the University of Genoa, the video story of the Compraverde Buygreen Forum 2025 was screened, followed by the GPP Academy feature curated by Giorgio Galotti of Fondazione Ecosistemi, focused on sustainable sport and low-impact sporting events.

The contribution drew strong interest from participants, highlighting the role of Green Public Procurement as a practical driver for reducing the environmental footprint of the sports sector and promoting a broader culture of responsibility and inclusion. The discussion reinforced the idea that sport can serve as a powerful medium for spreading environmental awareness and advancing climate goals through innovation and collective action.

Supported by the University of Genoa, Tetis Institute, Fondazione Ecosistemi and the Forum Compraverde Buygreen, the initiative showcased how green procurement policies can become effective tools for change — influencing the way sports events, infrastructures and value chains are designed and managed.

The event took place on November 11, 2025, at the Italian Pavilion at COP30 in Belém, as part of the official Italian programme dedicated to environmental and social sustainability.

Why the future of food systems depends on school meals

School meals are no longer just about feeding students. Today, they represent one of the most concrete meeting points between public health, ecological transition, education policies and the transformation of food systems. Every day, millions of meals served in schools directly affect agricultural supply chains, production models, energy consumption, food waste and nutritional quality. This is also where an increasingly important part of European sustainability strategies is taking shape.
