Forests, pastures, agricultural land and collectively managed assets still represent a strategic resource for environmental protection, territorial development and the resilience of local economies. It is from this perspective that the session dedicated to Università Agrarie and collective land management has been developed for Forum Compraverde Buygreen 2026, bringing together institutions, local authorities, experts and academics to discuss the role of collective ownership systems in the ecological transition and sustainable territorial development.

Università Agrarie are among the oldest forms of shared natural resource management in Italy. Today, this model is once again attracting attention for its ability to combine environmental protection, territorial governance, sustainable resource use and the enhancement of local communities.The discussion will address issues related to the sustainable management of collective assets, landscape and biodiversity protection, the social and economic role of collective ownership systems and their contribution to preventing land consumption and the abandonment of inland areas.

Particular attention will also be given to the role of Università Agrarie in developing territorial models capable of integrating environmental sustainability, innovation and community participation, in line with the objectives of the European ecological transition. The session is part of the programme of the 20th edition of Forum Compraverde Buygreen, which, twenty years after its launch, continues to promote dialogue between sustainability, public policies and territorial development.

Public Food as a Climate Lever: The Rome Model Cuts Emissions by Up to 33%

School meals can become a powerful tool for climate action. This is the key finding of an analysis carried out by Fondazione Ecosistemi in collaboration with the Climate Office of Rome Capital on the city’s new public school catering contract. By increasing plant-based menus, organic products and local supply chains, the Rome model is able to reduce emissions associated with school catering by up to 33%, while generating environmental, social and economic benefits.
