Sustainable events: balancing culture, resources, and environmental impact – Best practices, challenges and future prospects

In recent years, the cultural and creative sector has received a significant boost thanks to funding from the NRRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), with the aim of supporting the country’s ecological transition. Innovation and the reduction of environmental impact are now at the heart of new cultural offering strategies, which are increasingly moving toward more sustainable models.

Cultural operators, both public and private, can play a key role in reducing the environmental impact of exhibitions, festivals, and cultural and musical events. By adopting the Minimum Environmental Criteria– particularly those for cultural events (Ministerial Decree of October 19, 2022, No. 459) – and drawing inspiration from established best practices in Italy, such as the Cultura in Verde Award, the Green Drop Award, the Green Film Fest, and the Green Fest project, it is possible to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and the consumption of natural and energy resources.

The meeting aims to activate a debate on the development of intersectoral projects, networking initiatives and collaborations to accelerate the change towards a more responsible and innovative cultural model.
