The new Environmental Criteria for road infrastructure and opportunities for rubberized asphalt

The meeting represents an important opportunity for technical and regulatory insights on a crucial topic for sustainable public procurement: the recent update of the Minimum Environmental Criteria for the design, construction, and maintenance of roads, published by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security.

The new regulation introduces stricter obligations for contracting authorities and promotes the adoption of innovative, low environmental impact materials, setting a new direction for the sustainability of road infrastructure.

During the workshop, ANAS, the body responsible for managing the national road and highway network, will present its experiences in the use of Recycled Tyre Materials (RTM), illustrating the results of field trials and the strategies adopted to comply with the new Minimum Environmental Criteria requirements.

At the international level, partners from the Re-Plan City Life project (RElevant Audience Plan Leading to Awareness Network for CIrcular Economy Use of Recycled TYre materials in city LIFE) will share their experiences, highlighting the benefits of RTM use in their respective countries.

The workshop will provide a platform for dialogue among institutions, infrastructure managers, engineers, researchers, and companies in the sector, with the aim of promoting a circular model for resource management and fostering the dissemination of more sustainable, efficient, and innovative construction practices.
