Grafts: conversations on urban parks and connected green spaces

Urban green spaces are not just physical places, but environments for connection, learning and community engagement. Parks, gardens and open spaces can become open-air classrooms, linking education, sustainability and participation.

The session will open with an interactive World Café, involving students, educators and organisations active in sustainability education and science communication. This participatory moment will explore how green spaces can be reimagined as places for active learning, inclusion and social interaction. The presence of partners from the PARKCONNECT project, together with young participants from Spain, Bulgaria, Ireland and North Macedonia, will bring an international perspective, offering the opportunity to compare how parks and green areas are experienced and valued across different contexts.

In this framework, the discussion will also connect to urban and climate adaptation policies, highlighting the role of green spaces as strategic infrastructures for quality of life and urban resilience, including through tools such as urban planning and Green Public Procurement. The aim is not only to exchange ideas, but to connect concrete experiences and perspectives, fostering actionable insights and practices to strengthen the role of green spaces as social, educational and environmental infrastructures.
