How advanced is Green Public Procurement in Italy? To what extent are Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) actually applied in public tenders? And what role can public demand play today in the ecological transition and industrial competitiveness of the country?\u00a0These are some of the key questions at the centre of the 9th Green Procurement Observatory Report,<\/a><\/strong> which will be presented on 28 May during Forum Compraverde Buygreen 2026 in Rome.<\/p>\n

Developed by Legambiente and Fondazione Ecosistemi, the Observatory is one of Italy\u2019s leading monitoring tools on the implementation of Green Public Procurement, providing each year an updated overview of how Italian public administrations integrate environmental criteria into public purchasing processes.\u00a0The 2026 edition comes at a time when GPP is no longer considered a niche topic. Sustainable public procurement is now increasingly connected to European industrial policies, supply chain decarbonisation, strategic autonomy and the ability to drive innovation and investments.<\/p>\n

The Report will analyse data, trends and critical issues related to the implementation of CAM, highlighting territorial differences, the most advanced sectors and the main barriers still slowing the widespread adoption of Green Public Procurement within public administrations.\u00a0Particular attention will also be given to the role of public demand as a lever capable of influencing not only environmental sustainability, but also production quality, industrial innovation and market transformation.<\/p>\n

The discussion will involve institutional representatives, public authorities, experts, universities and organisations engaged in promoting Green Public Procurement and sustainability policies.\u00a0Speakers will include Marco Mancini (Legambiente), Enrico Fontana (Legambiente National Observatory on Environment and Legality), Antonio Nicoletti (Legambiente), Alessandro Bratti (ARERA Board), Matteo Nevi (Assosistema Confindustria), Elena Carnevali (Mayor of Bergamo), Gaetano Manfredi (President of ANCI and Mayor of Naples), Eleonora De Maria (University of Padua), Roberto Caranta (University of Turin), Valeria Veglia (Metropolitan City of Turin), Carlo Contaldi La Grotteria (AdLaw Administrative Lawyers), Serena Sgarioto (Innovation Manager, Ecopneus) and Silvano Falocco (Fondazione Ecosistemi). The session will be moderated by journalist Emma Evangelista.<\/p>\n
